Best VPS for Telegram Bot Hosting: Polling, Webhooks, and a Real Plan Example

Choose between Telegram long polling and webhooks first, then compare an official VPS plan's prepaid cost, renewal, resources, data-center options, backups, and refund terms.

✓

Quick answer
There is no universal “best VPS” for every Telegram bot, and Telegram publishes no CPU or RAM minimum. If you want one concrete, currently listed self-managed option to compare, Hostinger KVM 2 lists 2 vCPU cores and 8 GB RAM for $8.79/month equivalent on a 24-month prepaid term ($210.96 due today, before VAT); it renews at $14.99/month for the same term. Weekly backups are enabled by default, and eligible KVM VPS purchases have a 30-day refund window (cryptocurrency payments are excluded). Choose long polling if you want the simpler inbound-network setup; choose a webhook only if you can configure a public HTTPS endpoint, matching certificate, and supported port. Choose a Telegram bot update method before choosing a VPS Long polling is the simpler first deployment path because the bot requests updates. Webhooks require Telegram to reach a public HTTPS endpoint with a matching certificate and supported port. Both choices still need an operating system and bot maintenance plan. Pick the update path before you buy server resources

A Telegram bot needs a running backend that connects to the Bot API. Telegram documents two ways to receive updates: long polling and webhooks. The choice changes your network setup, but Telegram’s public documentation does not give a minimum CPU, RAM, disk, or VPS size for an ordinary bot. Do not treat a plan’s specification as an official bot requirement.

Long polling: your bot calls Telegram’s getUpdates method and waits for updates. Telegram says long polling cannot be used while an outgoing webhook is set. For a first, low-complexity deployment, this avoids setting up a publicly reachable webhook listener. Your process still needs to stay running, and you remain responsible for server updates, application logs, secrets, and recovery.

Webhook: Telegram sends update requests to a URL on your server. Its guide requires a public address that supports IPv4, HTTPS with TLS 1.2 or later, a certificate whose domain matches the webhook URL, and an open supported port: 443, 80, 88, or 8443. Redirects are not supported. You also need a domain or another supported endpoint arrangement and must configure the web server and firewall correctly. Telegram’s webhook guide says IPv6 is not currently supported for webhooks.

A concrete plan to compare: Hostinger KVM 2

Hostinger’s US VPS page lists KVM 2 at $8.79/month equivalent for the current first term and states that $210.96 is due today for 24 months, before VAT. It lists renewal at $14.99/month for the same 24-month term. This is prepaid hosting, not a month-to-month invoice. Confirm the checkout total, taxes, selected data center, and renewal terms in your own order summary before paying; prices and availability can change.

Up to four scheduled copies are retained when both schedules are enabled: two daily and two weekly.Restoring overwrites the server’s current contents and cannot be reversed. Keep an independent copy of bot code and essential data.

Who should consider this plan?

Potentially suitable: a developer or operator who wants root access, can administer Linux, and has verified that the selected bot runtime and workload fit the plan. KVM 2 provides a published resource allocation and a prepaid two-year price example, so it is a concrete option to compare when you value a continuously available server and can accept the term. This is conditional buying guidance, not a claim that the plan is required or proven best for every bot.

Not suitable: someone who expects the provider to install and maintain the bot, patch the operating system, configure the webhook and certificate, or handle application incidents. Hostinger describes its VPS settings as manual. Also avoid a 24-month prepaid term if you need month-to-month billing, have not tested the bot, or cannot afford the full upfront total. A managed bot platform or managed hosting service may fit those needs better; compare its actual terms separately.

Deployment checklist for the two methods

  1. Keep the bot token out of source control and public logs; store it in a protected environment or secret store.
  2. For long polling, ensure only one intended process consumes updates and monitor that it restarts after a server reboot.
  3. For a webhook, set up the public endpoint, matching certificate, supported port, inbound firewall rule, and TLS before calling setWebhook. Do not place a redirect in the webhook URL.
  4. Do not run long polling and an outgoing webhook at the same time; Telegram documents them as mutually exclusive update methods.
  5. Test the bot with its real code and expected activity, then review CPU and memory use before deciding whether to scale up or down.
  6. Enable and inspect backups, keep a separate copy of code and required data, and document a restore procedure before relying on the bot.
